Pomperaug Youth Baseball is Born

From: Pomperaug Youth Baseball
Date: November 1, 2017
Subject: Pomperaug Youth Baseball Announcement

It is with a tremendous amount of excitement that we officially announce the merging of Southbury Youth Baseball with Middlebury Baseball to form Pomperaug Youth Baseball.

As our players, coaches, and volunteers join forces, we look forward to immediate growth this coming spring. Players from Middlebury and Southbury have successfully combined at the Babe Ruth level for several years, and a soft merge at all levels this fall ran extremely smoothly.

We want to see baseball to continue to thrive, as our players develop the teamwork and camaraderie that they will remember for a lifetime. We firmly believe that a positive youth baseball experience provides the necessary foundation for our athletes to play competitive baseball as they mature and grow, whether at the Babe Ruth level, the middle school and high school level or even beyond.

Some of the benefits of officially merging will include a larger pool of talent, which will lead to the formation of more teams during the spring and summer travel seasons, as well as the fall baseball campaign. Pomperaug Youth Baseball will also be able to combine field resources. Multiple games will be held at various times at Ewald Fields and night games - with the potential of all-star games and district tournament games - will be held at Quassy Field.

Over the next several weeks, members of the Pomperaug Youth Baseball board - comprised of residents from both Southbury and Middlebury - will be ironing out details regarding a new logo, web site, an updated registration process, field maintenance/improvements, and sponsorship's from businesses in both towns.

Please be on the lookout for announcements regarding registration for the spring 2018 season, as well as open tryouts for summer travel teams at all age levels. Announcements will also be forthcoming about new bat requirements for next year.

Until then, enjoy the remaining days of fall. We can’t wait for Opening Day!
